weekend [wear]abouts

 

 

So my no-plan weekend sure filled up fast. I don’t know how it happens. When the rare opportunity comes around to take it easy, my two precious days somehow find a way to be busy.

Not mad about it.

So here’s what we did: My husband and I carpooled to meetings Friday afternoon (another rare occasion) and turned it into an early mellow date night at Joans on Third. But the one in Santa Monica. Though both the restaurant decor and menu are exactly the same as the original in West Hollywood, rumor has it that SM shop may be just a “copycat” and not a licensed J.O.T. (more info here). Keep you posted on that sich but either way nothing stops me from the edamame veggie burger and sweet pickles (confession: just had the same burger 5 seconds ago, but protein style. Not obsessed or anything).

Saturday I did some online shopping and pretty much worked all day. Met some friends at our local Ashland Hill for a glass of cab and hit up Rose Cafe for a little (or a lot) of pizza and pasta – their smoked bucatini carbonara is bomb as well as their brussels. Both have an egg on ’em ; ) Our hostess actually warned us about the amount of food we ordered, and boy was she right. Their servings are much larger than the normal hipstered out small plate scenario in Venice but we still showed her who’s boss and finished it all.

Met a friend and her pup for breakfast at Zinque today (they have a killer $17 deal that includes 1 breakfast item, a side, and a mimosa!) and then met my husband and his relatives for lunch at The Tasting Kitchen. We spent a few hours with them before they headed back home to Australia. I got quick little neck massage, worked, and here I am. Sitting in front of the computer, digesting my Joans on Third Veggie Burger (Sunday edition), while watching the Oscars (Jen Garner’s dress for the win!).
