It’s always been an adventure with the Buns and now that we’ve hit 33 weeks, these littles have taken me on a few more twists and turns, per usual.

Let’s rewind. I mentioned in my 32 week BUMPdate I had the flu, so when I started having severe cramping and back aches last week, I just associated the pain as part of being sick. Uhh, think again, Carly. I knew I should have gone to that labor/birthing class-haha! I bear through it over the next several days that weekend with my typical one outing per 24 hours that usually consisted of lunch out with Hunter or brunch with friends, followed by a quick “shoot I need to go home” to nurse the hurt. Everything quickly started to feel difficult  – breathing was even a chore! Luckily I rested just enough to get one more strong bit of energy to make it to Easter Dinner in Malibu that following Sunday. I even put on a pretty dress, and did my hair and make-up. I felt awful earlier that day, but it was like God gave me a final wind of  feeling fantastic for a couple hours that eve for my last hoorah with loved ones.

Later that night in bed, I tossed and turned over more pain (think extreme  menstrual cramps & sharp lower back aches that shoot down your leg) so to the doctor I went in the morning where she informed me the cramps and aches were not illness but contractions, and a holy moly 7 minutes apart! They calmed down, she did a few other tests and the next step was to see my high risk doctor later in the week. The following night I had some other questionable symptoms, and slept again for about one hour due to intense pain so I went in to my OB first thing in the am. She determined my cervix was extremely short among other things, and after all the other drama earlier in the week, plus dehydration from the flu, admitted me to the hospital to be monitored more closely. With a precautionary outlook, she said if anyone can keep these kids in for longer, its the hospital, so off we went and are doing what it takes!

I’ve been here since Wednesday and am still here while they feed me meds to relax my uterine muscles, decrease contractions, keep my cervix at bay and deter labor. I also got a few steroid shots to help the Buns’ organs develop should they arrive early. My one outing a day has a decreased to strict bedrest with trips to the bathroom only but hey! All is good in the hood! Ooo but I can take showers too. Standing in there  might be my favorite part of the day at this point! I have lots of chords to monitor my babies’s heart rates, an IV for hydration and fancy compression socks to prevent blood clots. Sleeping is tough because the nurses check on me every hour which often entails moving my monitors around my stomach (it’s super hard to keep both babies’ monitors in one place without them sliding off all the time), taking my vitals and giving me my routine meds but I got nowhere to be during these days now, so I try to nap when I’m comfortable, when I can! Oh and I am SO swollen! Overall the situation is positive though…I’m in amazing hands, and instead of taking it easy at home, I’m in a safe place with people waiting on me, and at my side should anything drastic happen. My OB visits every day (which I love because not only do we talk about what’s going on, I get to interact with a familiar face!), and my high risk doctor will visit on occasion to check the babies with an ultrasound. Hunter has gone above and beyond the past few weeks for me during bed rest at home, my flu situation, and now my new hospital state. I always knew he’d be there for me in any circumstance but he’s just blown me away by his constant love and positive attitude. Plus, he gets me food from anywhere I want, and toughs it out through all the beeping and bright lights in my room at night just to sleep by my side :) I can’t explain any further the extremes he’s taken and the sacrifices he’s already made to keep me comfortable (especially considering he just broke ground on his new 23 unit apartment building development and is insanely busy) and it makes me that much more excited to see him become a dad soon <3

I’ll try to keep you updated but it’s sorta just a waiting game at this point. We are trying to stay calm and take one day at a time so forgive me if I don’t share too many more details. I will still be posting a few maternity looks and other fun outfits so stick around my friends! The show must go on of course!

Oh, and P.S… how hot am I in my cool socks?? We joke I look like I’m escaping from an insane asylum!

Hopefully things will be controlled and I’ll get out of here sooner than later and to bed rest at home but we’ll do anything but for these babies so I’ll stay as long as I need to keep these guys in.  Whether they come in 3 days  or in 3 weeks we know it’s all meant to be! Thank you for following this wild and crazy journey as always and I can’t wait for you to meet the Buns!

xx, Carly

Oh my… brings back memories… Three years ago I was in same situation, expecting twins all going well then at 31 weeks I started contracting and they put me on bed rest in hospital for 4 weeks until they had to deliver due to my son’s having IUGR due to his placenta breaking down prematurely.

All I can say is relax and try to enjoy the time (netflix, Hulu and HBO GO were a must for me) along with nightly visits from hubby with good food and during the day some good chat from the nurses and blog reading!

Best of luck to you, I hope you’re out soon. Emma. Ps now my gorgeous twins are 2.5 and one day I’ll recall the adventure to them
