When Natalie Feild and I first got on the phone to discuss a collaboration, our conversation quickly went from business to personal as we exchanged our stories of infertility and shared the joys we’ve found in the journey of motherhood. We were a match made on social media heaven, and a connection built on our passion for babies, mamas, and of course, mamas in the making.
When we put our minds and hearts together for Softsie’s spring pieces, we wanted something to represent all the feels. And after lots of ideas and sketches (Natalie totally put me to work by the way!), our heads and hearts landed on a palm branch.
For this mama, a palm branch resembles vacation. Relaxation. Sunshine. Maybe even a mai tai. Aside from all those pretty things, it was also once a place of escape during my darkest days of infertility. I’d find the biggest palm outside our Santa Monica apartment, sit under it and stare in stillness.They silenced the noise and just brought so much hope! To this day I still love sitting under a good palm. With my babies. With my dream! And maybe some string cheese and puffs of course. Gosh I’m lucky.
Among many other significant meanings including triumph and strength, a palm leaf symbolizes peace. Something Natalie and I found through part 1 of our journeys, and something that is still ever so present in our hearts while we venture through part 2. The privilege of motherhood! Our life tales are nowhere near how we imagined them, but oh how we hope to always find peace with their perfect imperfections.
Our collaboration embodies all of these things and we’re so excited to share it with you! Slater and Zoe finalized the pattern and together we decided grey and white was the most versatile color combo – it’s gender neutral and works year round! The fabric is THE softest thing you will ever feel! The separates and footie are practical for both sleeping and playing, and the beanie and swaddle are super cute too. Everything is functional for our busy days, and these photos are just a compilation of our life! We love to wear our palm under the trees at the beach, but we love to cozy up in them under imaginary trees at home just the same :)
