These buns are ONE!! You know that saying the days are long but the years are short? Holy cow. True story.

I still have to get the twins birthday pics up (mostly for my own sake since I’m sure you saw enough on Insta!) but I’m trying to be in the now for a sec. When the babies turned one, I did a lot of reflecting. Mostly on their first 12 months of life but even more on my first year as a mama, and the person I have become. The person I am becoming! I had a lot of fun chatting with heymama about where I’m at personally as I enter this new chapter so feel free to check it out my interview for all the thoughts and feels! But right now, let’s talk about these sweet Buns!

So what are my twelve month olds up to now?  They’re quickly morphing into little people! My little people! Who I get to raise. And watch grow up!

Slater is getting hair! Finally! It’s blonde, so we might have a towhead on our hands! He loves to pull up to things and stand but isn’t quite sure about taking a step yet. He loves his plastic Vtech walker, and is super speedy down the hall with it. If he doesn’t have is walker he’ll improvise with a stool, chair, box, or whatever else is available! Slates loves his bottle still (we drink whole milk now!) and loves his water. Especially when it’s in his new sippy cup/water bottle (thanks Lisa!). His favorite snacks are these Gerber or Happy Baby yogurt melts. And he still loves his puffs and teething biscuits (which are great for keeping your kids occupied on the go if they’re fussy or “bored”). Slates loves carrots, sweet potatoes, chicken, turkey, avocado and hummus. We learned at his party that he does not like frosting or cake! The kid still lives for puppies, in fact he shakes his whole body in excitement when he sees one. He’s starting to acquire dance moves (its so cute, he bounces up and down when certain tunes come on) and especially loves the song baby beluga, the ants go marching, and any song with ducks/quacks in it. He loves his “booknook” in the corner of our living room and constantly pulls out the stories with bears (especially this one!), trucks or elephants. He also loves the Wheels on the Bus book! Curious Slates is always on the go but he also loves to be held and cuddled when he’s in the mood. He’s obsessed with his Jellycat “BUNny” (no pun intended-thats what we call him!) and usually will look for him before he’s ready for nap/bed which is the cutest thing. He’s 23-24 pounds, in the 30th percentile for height and 80th for weight. Considering he was negative on the charts at birth, his stats are great and it’s pretty obvious the kid likes to eat!

Zoe bear! My sweet little gal who also has a lot of sass and personality. She loves to do her own thing and doesn’t take crap from her brother. She loves to be held. And loves to sing! She’s an expert crawler with all the technique and all the grace. Zoe loves to be involved. When I include her in photo shoots or something she isn’t used to being a part of you can tell she feels special. She is special! Or sometimes when we push bedtime to take brother and her to dinner with us at a fun spot she’ll turn her charm on. Sometimes. I can tell the girl loves fashion. When I pulled out her romper and her gold tutu for her to pick between on her bday, she immediately blushed and pointed to the tutu. Good choice Zo (the romper was really cute though, guys!). And when I dressed her in a princess Rapunzel costume the next day she was all smiles! She loves headbands  (most of the time) and also loves to play with my jewelry. Zoe mostly wants to cuddle but she’s figured out the squirm technique – you know where the kid is in your arms and then puts her hands up to slide out. She loves bananas. Chicken, Grilled Cheese. Pears. Yogurt. And she does in fact love frosting! Baby girl is 21 pounds and is in the 60th percentile height and 75th for weight! She is smaller than Slater but measures higher on the girls chart since the numbers are different.

So which one’s easier right now? It changes SO much you guys. Two weeks ago Zoe would NOT let me put her down. It was super sweet because she wanted to cuddle of course but also made me sensitive to Slater because I had spent no time with him. I know its just mom guilt thats always going to twist and turn but that week I def made sure to carve out mommy and me time with my boy (which I should be doing regularly with both kids anyway)! And now, a couple weeks later with the flip of a switch, Slates is the “needy” one. He not only wants to go go go, climb out of every high chair, carrier, stroller, or grocery cart, but he also wants to be held held held when he is in the mood. And when he is in a mood, the boy will stick to it!

As far as our day to day. It’s pretty predictable but also all over the place. Like we always, sing to raffi or disney in the morning, but we aren’t always in the best moods. Or we take our usual walk in the afternoon but sometimes its in my arms instead of the stroller.  We occasionally adventure to the grocery store. The babes love the action and lights! I get a ton of responses to my instagram stories about how I “get out all the time” with them. Is this the part where I’m supposed to say it’s easy? Haha. You guys only see minutes…seconds!.. of the grand plan. I mean, sometimes it’s smooth movin’ but when we hit up Target there is usually one kid climbing out of the shopping cart while the other is squirming to get out of the carrier. And me almost leaving the entire situation, including my purse, to escape the premises as soon as POSSIBLE. I typically do a mental check- in with myself before I go out and ask, am I in the mood?  Can I handle this today? I was in silly/possibly delirious  spirits during my last visit to Target. So I laughed all the crazy off. And it was fine.  We do a lot as a family but when it comes to solo missions, I definitely analyze what my littles (and I!) can handle. We love to be social and adventurous but we also love to be babies and do baby things at home or in the neighborhood!

The newborn and infant stages were special but this stage is so much fun! I feel like it just gets better and better. Like they say! I always imagined I’d have life “together” when the twins turned one and be back in my go go go lifestyle, but I’m learning it’s okay to be still in this new moment and in this new now. I am privileged that I can spend as much time as I do with them so I’m taking every little thing I can in before my babies change in front of my eyes! This one year old thing may be a new chapter for  them, but it’s also a new chapter for me! Instead of speeding up, I’m really trying to slow it all down. And just embrace.
