It’s been a while since we’ve talked about baby food so I thought I’d tap back into it. Since the Buns are eating filet mignon, truffle pizza, caprese and are basically adults now. They are a couple of Kenihans afterall, so I guess  the foodie factor is no surprise. Here’s what they’re currently loving:

Trader Joes PB&J Bars:

When I get to Trader Joes these are usually the first things I head for. I open them up in the store and give one to the kids to snack on while we shop. Easy, nutritious, delicious.

Melon:

We like watermelon and cantaloupe that comes in the stick version best (usually found at TJ’s!). This keeps the kids so busy! I try to give it to them when we’re outside because it can be messy. They like to nibble on it en route to the park. It  distracts them from stroller meltdowns and by the time they’re done with their piece we’re at the swings! #winning

Turkey Sausage Patties:

Slater loves to bite into these whole. Another good one that keeps him “busy.” Also mama loves to eat these! A household favorite so they never go to waste. And good protein!

Strawberries:

We eat these finely chopped. The red juice gets everywhere so this is another good outdoor snack!

String Cheese:

Another on the go, snack. I’ll break apart the cheese if we’re on our way to the park or let the babes eat the stick whole in little bites if I’m sitting right in front of them. Because they love to stuff the entire thing in their mouth at once and we all know how that goes.

Apple Sauce:

Obsessed. Always have been and always will be. I think. This is another messy one because my babes  often just stick their hand in the little packet and then hello disaster.  I do like these Mott’s apple sauce squeeze pouches as a cleaner alternative though! The kids can do it themselves in a somewhat tidy manner.

Peaches:

Another one that keeps them occupied for awhile! Slater will eat an entire peach whole. It takes him awhile but he loves the challenge and he loves the juice. I think he feels like a big kid when he does it. Every week we go to the farmers market, and the peach guy is always our first stop!

Black Beans:

I don’t make these at home often but I probably should. Because every time S + Z have them at from our fave Mexican spot they devour!

Quesadilla:

This a good hand held snack! Also works in little pieces. Most importantly, easy to make and easy to eat!

Fries:

We prefer sweet potato to keep it healthy but regular works too when we’re out. Another good finger food that can be eaten stick version or broken up in little pieces.

Ketchup:

I’m not sure if they love it, but Slater took down so much ketchup one time at lunch. I haven’t actually bought it or served it at home, but I’m wondering if the kids would eat more protein if I put ketchup on some of it. Do any of your kids like ketchup?

Pasta:

Currently loving in Annie’s mac n’ cheese form! Slater could probably eat a whole box. We also like to do plain noodles with a little olive oil or butter & parm.

Guacamole:

Like mama like babies. They know this is the good stuff. Especially when grandpa makes it.

Grilled Cheese:

I haven’t mastered this at home, but the kids seem to dig it when we are out!

I was kidding about the filet mignon and caprese but the babes occasionally will do pizza sans the truffle. We’re also we’re working on shrimp and salmon and other new things. They’re still loving their staples like eggs, yogurt, pancakes, waffles, chicken, turkey, carrots, broccoli, simple avocado and oatmeal. They also still devour those healthy breakfast cookies I put on my Instagram stories! You can find them in my “food” highlights or view the recipe below. When Zoe sees me making them she freaks out, and she can’t go past the cookie jar without insisting on a bite. The cookies make a nutritious snack and keep them pretty happy.

HEALTHY OATMEAL COOKIES

-2 cups rolled oats

-1 cup unsweetened apple sauce

-2 bananas

-1 cup raisins

-1 tsp vanilla

-1 tsp cinnamon

*mix ingredients together. place parchment paper on cookie sheet. scoop out cookies to sheet in size or shape desired. bake at 325 degrees for 27ish minutes (more if you like your cookies a bit crispy, less if you like them soft).

Last thing! Our little suction bowls are by muhckin and they actually work (most of the time). Our bibs are the same ones from Pottery Barn Kids we’ve been using since the babes were 5 months (ish)! And our high chairs are bloom Nano.

That pretty much covers it for now! #bunappetite

xx, Carly
