It’s Prematurity Awareness Month and I’m so excited to share one of the ways we are supporting preemies this season if you want to get involved!
Meet Miracle Babies, a non profit that provides support for critically ill newborns and their families. Founder Dr. Sean Daneshmand, who once gave patients money out of his own pocket before he started Miracle Babies in 2009, brought me (and the room) to tears at a recent event as he passionately shared his raw, emotional path to creating the amazing foundation. You can read more on Dr. D. and his story below but the org provides support for NICU families, helps address barriers that keep parents away from their new baby (transportation, groceries, and sibling child care costs to name a few), and helps moms and dads get to and from the NICU more often. Miracle Babies also distributes care packages including newborn necessities, nursing supplies, toiletries, books and more to support families during their NICU stays. Pretty incredible if you ask me!
If you want to get involved and help me make this holiday season a little more joyful for mama and baby it’s easy! You can donate directly to Miracle Babies here and contribute to the different care package options! My family and I will also be shopping for NICU carepackages on the official World Prematurity Day later this month, so you can message me directly if you want to be a part of our supply run! We will be picking up diapers, swaddles, stories, hygiene products, gas cards etc that will be assembled into holiday gifts and delivered to the neonatal unit at Children’s Hospital of LA.
If you’ve read this far, I appreciate it, and if you feel like participating, I am grateful! As I look back on my own NICU stay there are so many things I never want to relive but there are also so many things I just could never even imagine. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I was a lucky one, with resources and means. I am a lucky one, with now two healthy children who I get to spend the holidays with. My heart aches for those families in pain but together I hope we can make every baby’s first Christmas (and Hannukah!) a brighter one.
