my babies are almost two. TWO! I just can’t believe it. It feels like yesterday they were born.

To read these kid’s birth story you can visit my post here, but today I’m reflecting on a few specific moments that in hindsight have become even more significant to me. From the first time I held each of my babies, to the first time they were reunited since the womb as I held them both together.  And the moment I fell in love with Zoe. I loved her when she was born but the first time she looked me in the eye I remember thinking that’s it, I’m hers, and just about lost it in this overwhelming feeling of love. There’s also the sweetest picture of Slater when he first looked at his daddy, straight in the eye. We have a video of it, where he’s wheezing through his breathing tubes and I couldn’t figure out if it was the saddest or cutest thing, but I knew I was just smitten. He had-has- my heart.

There was the day we brought Slater home, and left little Zoe behind. That was brutal, but the silver lining shortly came after when we picked her up a day or two later. Looking back I know for sure Slater was just getting the place ready for his sister. He wanted to break it in. We went back to pick up Zoe, put Slater in her incubator crib for a little cuddle and then took her home. How sweet is the bottom photo of Slater’s hand on her body? He’s like “I’ve got this. I’ll take care of you sis.” And two years later I can say with every bit of my core, he does have this. And he does take care of her.

I wrote a letter to each of my babes which I shared tid bits of on Instagram. I am so proud of how far these four pound, 33 weekers have come. It’s insane, and preterm babies are just one of a kind. They are fighters, is what they are. And the biggest little loves of my life.
