When it comes to brunch spots on the westside in Los Angeles, there’s definitely no shortage of places to choose from. The good news is I’m here to simplify your situation with some of my must try spots. Whether you’re looking for places to see and be seen, or hide out in calm and quiet, my little list offers delicious food and amazing ambiance you’ll want to get your brunch on.
Rose Cafe, which serves up Southern California cuisine, is located in the center of Venice Beach (you’ve heard me talk about it here). Known for its focus on local, seasonal ingredients, the dishes found at this restaurant also have an international flare including the Rose Breakfast Burrito with scrambled eggs, braised bacon, smoked cheddar, avocado, and a mouthwatering peanut poblano mole. Rose is also home to my fave Smoked Bucatini Carbonara Pasta infused with bacon, parmesan and a poached egg, as well as Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Fried Eggs and Kale Pesto. Yum!

Ashland Hill, located on Main Street in Santa Monica, is all about sustainability, ingredients made in-house, and seasonal items. Craft beers and wines are featured and pair perfectly with the fresh, contemporary California fare. Try their Croissandwich or one of their seasonal omelettes. They also have delicious sides including their Ubitiquos Kale Salad and your not your so traditional macaroni and cheese with charred shishito peppers, white cheddar and an herb crust.

Herringbone is your spot for incredibly fresh seafood and meat paired with seasonal ingredients. Located in Santa Monica, this gem offers a special of endless rose during brunch hours that go nicely with the Smoked Salmon, served with capers and dill, or the Lobster Scramble with Creme Fraiche and Caviar. Then there’s the Baked Eggs with Jalapeno, Chorizo and Queso Fresco. I’ll sip my refreshing rose white I decide…
Venice Beach Wines is the place to be for those of you who appreciate top notch wie paired with tasty small plates, perfect for sharing. An impressive selection of sheep, goat and cow cheese is available, such as the soft and buttery Spain item with grapefruit and lemon flavor. A wonderful selection of charcuterie is also offered to kick off your day and don’t forget about their VBW Truffle Eggs with Parmesan and Fresh Baguette. Did I mention they serve sweet sangria and bottomless Mason Jar “Manmosas” for $15? No brainer.

Tavern boasts a chef who’s won a James Beard award, making this restaurant a superb option. Produce and meats served here are found locally and are extremely fresh, and the bread and pastries are maid in-house. If you’re a biscuit and gravy fan, the Sweet Tea Brined Fried Chicken Biscuit topped with buttermilk gravy and eggs served sunny side up are a must. The restaurant has a gorgeous atrium so if you call and make a reservation early enough, you might just get lucky.

MB Post is all about small production wines, craft beers, specialty cocktails and an impressive selection of fresh, seasonal small plates. Their Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits are a must and their egg dishes evolve daily to keep the menu fresh and exciting. I love that their juices are fresh squeezed (their salts and syrups are even house-made!) plus they have to die for bloody mary’s – one spice spot indeed.
