Let’s face it, wedding season is on the horizon and whether you have 2 or 20 to attend, you’re probably facing a dressing dilemma. As a former bride and avid wedding hopper (I attended about 15 last year!) you can trust in my tips when it comes to fancy’n up for the festivities.

FESTIVE ATTIRE

Festive Attire is a common theme these days, and one I happen to love! It’s typically more on the casual chic side so take the opportunity to express yourself with a little color, print and body. There are a ton of great long wrap dresses out there in prints like this one by Tularosa, as well as fun shorter silhouettes to keep you feeling vivacious for vow viewing.

COCKTAIL ATTIRE

Cocktail Attire is probably the most standard and simple. I love a good shift dress in a vibrant color like this silhouette from Felicty & Coco (under $100)! It’s flattering but forgiving  and will become your bestie when it comes to indulging in that cake and champ. Not to mention, your dance moves.

GARDEN OR BEACH CEREMONY

Garden wedding Dress - light blue privacy please wrap dress California

Easy breezy. Go for maxis, florals and soft shades for a beach or garden themed wedding. The long wrap dress comes in hand for this attire as well (the one pictured is unavail but similar style here and below!), and you can try heels or sandals pending the location. I also love a good off-the-shoulder, or even romper for this type of event.

DESERT (I) DO’S

Similar to festive attire, let your wild side fly (but not too high now). Try a bright color like yellow, or any neon number or a ceremony in the desert. If you’re looking for something more subtle, you can go with my beach and garden looks above.

NOT SURE / HELP!

You can never go wrong with black, so when you just don’t know, black is the answer. There are so many great off-the-shoulder styles like this one by N Nicholas, plus hundreds of other silhouettes to suit your body. Slip on a colorful heel and interesting clutch to brighten your look up.

BLACK TIE

Black Tie wedding Dress - black tie Little Black Dress California

Black Tie’s are a little more rare in the summer, but they do happen (guilty bride over here as my own summer wedding was BT)! They’re not as hard to dress for as you think, especially when you find a staple you can wear over and over again. Fun fact, this above style by Two Birds was the dress my bridesmaids wore! It’s avail at Nordstrom plus various other boutiques – I loved it so much I bought my own and have worn it a handful of times all different ways with it’s 20+ options to wrap and tie. It’s a good dress to invest in if you have a few fancy affairs approaching and will keep you feeling like you’re in a new dress every time without spending the black tie bucks.

EXTRA TIPS:

Don’t wear a white dress.

To be safe, don’t even wear a white skirt.

White shoes are okay.

Crop Tops are questionable. If you can don one in a subtle way without too much skin showing, by all means do what makes you comfortable, but keep it classy and conservative (and definitely pick a skirt with coverage).

If you’re wondering whether something is a) too out there, b) revealing or c) inappropriate, start over. Or just go with a LBD  to sweat the stress and play it safe.

Have Fun!
